Bay Area Maternity is proud to offer a high standard of health services in a caring and comfortable environment. We specialize in normal women’s health, particularly in the area of pre-conceptual care, pregnancy, family planning, contraceptives, Well Woman Gynecological Exams and Pap Smears. As your providers we also offer primary care to those women entering the menopause years with guidance and referrals to specialists if necessary. We can diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or simple vaginal infections but offer common sense advise about how to avoid such conditions too. We are happy to see your teen daughter for discussions around Sexual health and give down to earth advice about Safe Sex and Contraception.
Certified Nurse Midwives across the globe are seen as the ‘experts’ in the field of normal pregnancy, labor and birth however, we cannot do this alone. We work closely together with our moms building her mental strength for the day she brings her baby into this world, guiding her through this journey and giving her the inner confidence that all women need at this time. We emphasise the importance of diet, exercise and knowledge and will spend much of your appointment time teaching and talking about how to get the best outcome for you and your baby.
'You can do it' is often our motto. We ensure that the mom remains healthy throughout her pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period so that the culminating prize is a beautiful, healthy mom and baby at the end of the day. Always remember, we respect the choices you make about your labor and we will guide you with great patience accordingly but trust is the key, and over the weeks you will begin to realize you can trust us to do the right thing for you and your baby even if that means needing an epidural or using Pitocin or even having a Cesarean. Just know we have you and your baby interests at heart and although we have a very low intervention rate, we cannot perform miracles.
In order to achieve this great outcome, we know it takes many people and we collaborate closely with our Physicians who are well known in the area for excellent care. You will be seen twice during your pregnancy by one of our doctors who ensures that you meet the satisfactory criteria to be able to deliver with us and he or she signs your chart to that end, answers your questions or concerns and is very supportive of how we practice.
On the day of delivery you will contact whichever Midwife is on-call that day by phoning the office number and she will advise over the phone when is a good time to go into the hospital. She will meet you there. We also work very closely with our Doula community here in the Bay Area and many of you will choose to have one of these wonderful women assist you. They bring a lot to the table for not only you but your partner also - they do not take away that role. They can come to your home in early labor and guide you and your partner along the way, bringing you into the hospital in good active labor, rather than you coming in too early and being sent home again - this makes for an excellent team and we can refer you to several in the area.
At this time, we are only available to deliver at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos and you can find the link below. This is a very Midwife friendly, patient centered environment where you can relax in the jaccuzi tub or spend time in the shower during your labor. Where intermittent fetal monitoring is the norm (unless there is a good reason to monitor continually) where a baby stays on your tummy skin to skin after birth and where no one is in a rush.
Please call the hospital to take a tour of the labor and delivery suite and come meet us at the next Tea with Midwives by signing up on the yahoo group at www.yahoogroups.com and look for svpregnancysupport - we look forward to meeting you soon.Link to El Camino Hospital (Los Gatos)
